Craft-Art Wood Countertops

Wood Species | Green Options | Edges | Portfolio | Care and WarrantyCraft-Art Wood Countertops

Make a statement in your kitchen with the warm, natural beauty of solid wood. Craft-Art sets the standard for modern wooden counters, offering handcrafted tops in eight wood choices. All lumber is hand selected and matched to highlight grain, color and texture. Tops are available in plank and edge-grain style using full-length boards or they can be constructed end-grain style.

This natural surface gives your kitchen a friendly glow. Kitchen designers use them as a focal point on an island, as a built-in work area and as a complete kitchen surface work area because of their practicality, low maintenance and unique beauty. This is the countertop used by celebrity chef Rachael Ray on her popular weekly TV show to prepare her practical recipes.

Craft-Art countertops are scratch resistant, heat resistant, food safe and waterproofed, a new generation of wood countertops for today's modern kitchen.

Wood Species

Craft-Art uses both domestic and imported wood species to manufacture our countertops. We do not use any wood that is being over harvested or that is on any threatened or endangered species list. We actively support international efforts to increase the use of sustainable forestry practices.

The use of reclaimed wood is quickly increasing in popularity as a means to reduce harvesting and increase the total number of acres planted with trees. Wood is, after all, the ultimate renewable resource.

Green Options

Craft-Art has a long standing commitment to forestry conservation and sustainable forestry practices. There are several organizations such as The Rainforest Alliance and The International Tropical Timber Organization that have made great strides in helping countries make the transition to sustainable timber harvesting. In addition, many Ecotourist organizations, such as The International Ecotourism Society, are directly involved with governments to promote multiple uses of the forestry resource.

Craft-Art current offers two ways to obtain our products that satisfy Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements.

Teragren Bamboo

Manufactured in China, Teragren is a joint U.S./Chinese firm. Following the estabished model, the factory is centered in the middle of a sustainably harvested bamboo forest.

Reclaimed Wood

In addition to the Antique Heart Pine tops we have always made, we are now offering several reclaimed wood species that are listed to the left. The reclaimed species being offered at any given time are stocked at our facility, so lead times are the same as our regular wood species.

Craft-Art's reclaimed wood comes from barns, warehouses, textile mills and other commercial buildings. In addition we have obtained several species from recycled pickle and vinegar vats.

The look of reclaimed wood varies widely. It can appear heavily distressed which would include spike and nail holes, surface checking, and other signs that it has been previously used for up to 150 years. However, in some cases, the wood has been protected and when re-surfaced, it will not have a "used" look. We can, of course, distress wood that does not have a distressed look.

We will continue to publish currently available wood species along with photographs of representative samples and tops. However, as with all natural wood products (reclaimed or otherwise), there is no guarantee that any given countertop will look like any given sample or photograph. Our intention is provide enough information so that you can make an informed decision.

Samples of our reclaimed species are located in the Wood Species section. Below are examples of finished tops made from these unique and varied options. Click through the swatches or use the scrollbar below to navigate through the green options.

Care and Warranty

Cleaning is a breeze! Wash the top with a damp clean cloth or paper towel. A mild soap may also be used. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

To make your countertop fresh and bright, clean with a 20 percent vinegar and 80 percent water mixture. This inexpensive solution is both a cleaner and a disinfectant.

Never let water stand on the countertop.

Avoid using ammonia-based cleaners on your Craft-Art Wood Countertop.

Once a year, consumers should re-coat their Craft-Art Countertops with Waterlox finish to maintain durability and add sparkle.

Warranty
Craft-Art guarantees the workmanship on every solid wood top it manufactures. A limited lifetime warranty applies to Craft-Art solid wood tops that are installed and maintained in the manner that is recommended.
